Teacher representatives from each school must compile videos from the students and submit within ONE (1) online registration form by September 17th (Tuesday), 5pm.
Participants may submit ONE (1) video of poem recitation with a maximum of 3 minutes (individual) or 5 minutes (group). Both written poem and video of poem recitation must be submitted in the online registration form itself by September 17th (Tuesday), 5pm.
The format of the video submission should be in either: MOV, MPEG4 (.mp4), AVI, WMV, MPEGPS, or FLV.
Poems must be original works of the participants. Previously recited, published, and self-published poems are not allowed.
The poem must convey the theme, #MYWorld, adequately. All pieces MUST BE written and recited in English.
The submitted poem will be judged based on content and performance.
Shortlisted participants for the final round will be contacted via email by October 18th, 2019 (Friday). The judges’ decisions are final.
Registered participants are eligible to attend ONE (1) complimentary poetry workshop in one of these regions:
Sunway College Ipoh : September 21st
SIS Sunway City : September 28th
SIS Sunway Iskandar : October 4th
Registered participants are also encouraged to attend the workshops to learn skills to write and recite a poem, and deepen their comprehension of slam poetry.
Workshop attendance is NOT compulsory and does not contribute to the competition scores.
Following the workshop, applicant may re-submit a revised video (not compulsory) via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The final deadline for online video resubmission is October 11th, 2019 (Friday), 5pm.
Shorlisted participants must perform a new poem in English, with the same theme, #MYWorld, on November 8th, 2019 (Friday).
Only original works are accepted. Works previously recited in public, or published in some form are not allowed.
Shortlisted participants have a maximum time limit of 3 minutes (individual) and 5 minutes (group) for their performance. Points will be deducted by the judges if participants exceed this time limit.
Shortlisted participants will be scored on content (50%) as well as performance (50%).
Winners will be determined by a panel of judges on the same day. The judges’ decisions are final.
A Helios Award will be given to the school team that achieves the highest points total after adding their Junior category score, Senior category score, & Group category score.
