  1. The SNaPSTM 2021 competition is open to all students 18 years old and below in Malaysia. 
  2. There are three categories: 
    (i)   Junior - Individual (15 years old and below as of  12 November 2021). 
    (ii)  Senior - Individual (16 to 18 years old as of 12 November 2021). 
    (iii) Group (18 years and below), 2 to 4 students and can be a mixture of Junior and Senior participants. 
  3. The competition consists of TWO (2) rounds: 
    (i)   Online Video Submission (29 September 2021)
    (ii)  Grand Finale (12 November 2021)
  4. Participants who register for the competition may choose to attend the complimentary workshop organised by Sunway International Schools (SIS).
  5. All applicants must submit their registrations through their teacher representatives.
  6. Each school must participate in at least TWO (2) categories (Junior, Senior, Group), for the registration to be valid.
  7. One participant can register in both the Individual AND Group categories. 
  8. Participants from the Group category must be from the same school and registered with an appropriate Group name.
  9. All participants will receive an e-Certificate of Participation.
  10. The participants must agree and consent that any information/materials given to Sunway Education Group (SEG) & SIS, and any recording made by SEG and/or SIS representatives may be used by the SEG, its entities and subsidiaries, and/or SIS not limited to commercial, publication, educational, and promotional purposes.
Online Video Submission:
  1. Teacher representatives who are interested in having their students participate in the competition must fill in the registration form HERE.
  2. The teacher representative must select ONE (1) student each for the Junior and/or Senior Category and ONE (1) group for the group category (see #3).
  3. Find below the details of each category a school can register for:

  4. Teacher representatives must submit all students’ videos within ONE (1) online registration form. 
  5. Both written poem and video of poem recitation must be submitted in the registration form itself by 29 September 2021 (Wednesday), 5pm.
  6. It is the responsibility of the teacher representative to ensure participating students in the Group category are adhering to physical distancing guidelines, as set by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and National Security Council (NSC), during poem recitation video recording.
  7. The format of the video submission should be in either: MOV, MPEG4 (.mp4), AVI, WMV, MPEGPS, or FLV.
  8. Poems must be original works of the participants. Previously recited, published, or self-published poems are not allowed.
  9. The poem must convey the theme, #ThriveTogether, adequately. 
  10. For all submissions, at least/a minimum of 90% of the poem must be written and recited in English.   
  11. Following the workshop, applicants may re-submit a revised video (not compulsory) via email at The final deadline is 8 October 2021 (Friday), 5pm.
Judging of Online Video Submission:
  1. All videos submitted will be posted on Sunway International School YouTube Channel.
  2. The judging of the online video submissions will be based on content (45%) and performance (45%) by the panel judges, and online votes by the public received via the Sunway International School YouTube Channel (10%).
  3. The public voting period is between 12 October 2021 (Tuesday), 5pm to 15 October 2021 (Friday), 12pm.
  4. Any votes received after 12pm will NOT be accepted.
  5. Shortlisted participants/schools for the Grand Finale will be contacted via email by 20 October 2021 (Wednesday). The judges’ decisions are final.
  1. The complimentary workshop will be hosted online via Zoom.
  2. Participants may choose to attend the workshop on 2 October 2021 (Saturday), 10am
  3. Registered participants are encouraged to attend the workshop to learn skills they can use to write and recite a poem as well as improve their comprehension of slam poetry.
  4. Workshop attendance is not compulsory and does not contribute to the competition scores.
  5. Following the workshop, applicants may re-submit a revised video (not compulsory) via email at The final deadline is 8 October 2021 (Friday), 5pm.
Grand Finale:
  1. The Grand Finale will be held ONLINE. Participating schools will need to ensure they have access to adequate equipment (computer/camera/ microphone) as well as a reliable internet connection in order to participate. More details on technology requirements will be provided after 20 October 2021 (Wednesday).
  2. It is the responsibility of the teacher representatives to ensure all participants follow social distancing guidelines during the event, as per the present Ministry of Education (MOE) and National Security Council (NSC) guidelines.
  3. Participants must perform a NEW poem in English, with the same theme #ThriveTogether on 12 November 2021 (Friday).
  4. Only original works are accepted. Works previously recited in public, previously published in some form or submitted in the video submission round are not permitted for the Grand Finale.
  5. Participants must submit a WRITTEN version of their Grand Finale poem on 10 November 2021 (Wednesday), 5pm, and prior to SNaPSTM Grand Finale day. A video submission is NOT required for this stage.
  6. Participants have a maximum time limit of 3 minutes (Individual) and 5 minutes (Group) for their performances. Points will be deducted by the judges if participants exceed the time limit.
  7. Participants will be scored on content (50%) as well as performance (50%).
  8. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges on the day of the event (12 November 2021). The judges’ decisions are final.
  9. The Helios Award will be given to the school team that achieves the highest point total after adding their Junior category score, Senior category score, & Group category score.
  10. The Spirit Award will be given to the school with the most online audience votes.
